Expressway Authority Unanimously Agrees to Delay Decision on Controversial Route
The Central Florida Expressway Authority board recently voted unanimously in support of transit solutions for our community, but cited the need for more time before endorsing or supporting any route on their owned and controlled property. This came after hours of discussion and opposition to Brightline’s proposed State Road (SR) 417 route from local residents and business leaders led by members of the International Drive Chamber of Commerce.
This is a key development for our cause and a huge win for Orlando. It signals the expressway authority is open to considering the route that would benefit our entire community. This route would follow SR 528 through mostly industrial areas, while connecting Orlando International Airport to the Orange County Convention Center and the I-Drive tourism corridor and supporting 75,000 jobs in the area. It would also help spur the much-needed connection and expansion of local public transit systems such as SunRail.
