I am concerned about the short-sighted and potentially damaging route recently proposed by Brightline for their high-speed rail through Central Florida. This route, following SR 417, would cut through residential neighborhoods and disrupt precious wetlands. It would also exclude the I-Drive corridor and Orange County Convention Center, instead of supporting the 75,000 individuals who work in that area.

The original proposed route, which is the 528 Taft-Vineland Route has been twice recommended by rail and transportation experts, should be the only choice. It will connect Central Florida communities by giving SunRail the opportunity for expansion in the future and serve more local businesses, residents and travelers. It travels through mostly industrial areas with less impact to our neighborhoods, wetlands and quality of life.

The SR 417 route is misguided and leaves the rest of us behind. Please make the right choice for the future of Central Florida and say yes to the 528 Taft Vineland Route that will service our entire community.
